Newsarama posted their 10 casualties that could possibly die during next month’s AvX (Check That Out Here http://www.newsarama.com/comics/10-possible-avengers-vs-xmen-casualties.html ) so i figured we at the Free World would give it a try and predict who we think will die during the ultimate showdown between the Avengers & The X-Men.
#10 Iron Fist- We know he’ll be part of the Secret Avengers squad that will go into space to try to stop the Phoenix from getting to earth. We also know he has some sort of connection to the Phoenix, my assumption is he’ll die trying to become a host.
#9 Ms. Marvel- She hasn’t been very relevant as of late, and she’ll also be another member of the Secret Avengers squad (See a pattern here?). She’d be a casualty no one would miss.
#8 AOA Nightcrawler- This might not exactly happen in the AvX storyline but it should probably happen around the same time. “Uncanny X-Force” writer Rick Remender said that a team member would die by issue #27. With the importance of the other characters in the book, my guess is we might have to say goodbye to “Elf” for the second time.
#7 Pixie- Here’s where i agree with Newsarama.com. Pixie has been an important part of the X-Men as of late. She’s also had a substantial amount of story devoted to her in the last couple of years. She recently lost her spot on the main roster tho and was replaced by Magik, Colossus’s sister who is a much more interesting character. I could see her going out kind of like the original Nightcrawler.
#6 Beast- Beast would probably be the most heartbreaking loss in this series. Not only is he a member of both the Avengers & the X-Men, but his ties stretch across the marvel universe. At one point he was Cyclops’s closest advisor and he’s Wolverine’s best friend, not to mention he’ll be part of the Secret Avengers team as well.
#5 Cable aka Nathan Summers- Cable’s the wildcard in this series. He already knows the outcome if the Avengers kill Hope and he’d stop at nothing to protect his daughter. He’s also currently dying from the nano-virus that he’s had since he was a child, so i wouldn’t be shocked if he’s one of the 1st casualties of this war.
#4 Colossus- We know Colossus will be going toe to toe with some of the Avengers heavy hitters. We also know he’s been having problems controlling the Juggernaut and at some point he’ll be a problem that will need to be dealt with. While i don’t think it’s likely we’ll see him die again in AvX, it’s very possible.
#3 Hope Summers- We know that the Phoenix is coming to earth for Hope, but we also know what happens to the hosts of the Phoenix. Many believe Hope and Jean Grey are somehow connected, weather it be she’s Jean reincarnated or she’s really Jean’s daughter. Hopefully we finally get some answers to those questions and only time will tell if she’ll meet the same fate as the original Phoenix.
#2 Cyclops aka Scott Summers- Marvel said this has been a story 10 years in the making and over those years there has been no one that has changed more than Scott Summers. We’ve watched him grow from being the leader of the X-Men to becoming the leader of an entire nation of mutants. He’s no longer the straight edged pretty boy everyone remembers him as. He’s now viewed as a dictator by some and shows more similarities to Magneto then to his former mentor Professor X. No one’s death would impact this series or make more sense then Cyclops. it would also be the perfect motivation for Wolverine to switch sides and step in as the leader.
#1 Scarlet Witch- The similarities between Hope & Wanda are Uncanny, no pun intended. During “House Of M” she was hunted by both sides because of how dangerous everyone believed her to be. After being convinced by her brother to use her powers she created an alternate world where superhero’s ruled and humans lived inferior lives. The end result was her brother Pietro (Quicksilver) being killed by her father Magneto and her uttering 3 infamous words “No More Mutants”. This resulted in about 90% of the mutants on earth loosing their powers until the day Hope Summers was born. Wanda was ultimately believed to be dead until “The Children’s Crusade” and has vowed to fix what she did on M-Day. I wouldn’t be surprised if she steps in to become the host to the Phoenix instead of Hope. There’s a reason she’s on the cover of issue #0
